However, his world turned upside down when he received heartbreaking news his father had been diagnosed with cancer. This unexpected tragedy broke him emotionally and mentally.

Himanshu shifted his father to Nagpur and then to Chandigarh for treatment. At that time, the COVID-19 pandemic was also ongoing. In Chandigarh, his elder brother and mother had to frequently travel back and forth, and they had to rent a room in a hotel. The treatment and surgery took around 5 to 6 months. The cancer was diagnosed at stage 2 and 3, which made the case even more complicated. During this period, Himanshu’s studies came to a sudden halt.

Balancing Responsibilities: Managing the Shop and Studies Together

Himanshu’s father used to run a shop. When his father was admitted to the hospital, it became necessary for Himanshu to take over the shop as it was their only source of income. He ran the shop for six months, putting his studies on hold. However, whenever he found time, he would study online from the shop itself. Due to his father’s critical condition, he had almost given up hope of clearing NEET.

Almost Giving Up on NEET

He had completely lost hope in NEET. His dream of becoming a doctor seemed to be slipping away, and he started imagining spending the rest of his life running that same shop. He had an elder sister, and in his frustration, he would often share his problems with her. He would tell her, “Didi, I don’t think I can become a doctor now,” because at that point, he felt he had no other options left — and he couldn’t abandon his family either.

Himanshu’s father’s operation was successful, and his recovery had begun. He had returned home, but still had to go back periodically for chemotherapy sessions.
Himanshu’s elder brother and mother had returned home, and after handing over the responsibility of the shop to them, Himanshu got ready to focus on his studies again.

Getting Back on Track: Resuming Studies with Full Dedication
